My first blogpost

I was 16 years old – a tenth grader. The date was nearing by the hour. The date when I had to choose the optional subjects for next year, which was basically to decide what am I going to do with my career. It was the second time to choose careers and I wasn’t closer to the answer than last time. I knew last time I didn’t make a great decision, studying biology and chemistry turned out to be not for me. So what is for me then? My decision was not much more responsible and thought-through than 3 years prior, but there is one difference. Here I am almost five years later, still with the same path. I grew to like it.
I chose informatics. And now I am studying (mostly) software engineering in university. The reason wasn’t sympathy towards it, but rather I saw future in this field. With the rapidly developing AI sector, it is not that sure now. I learned HTML and CSS, and I am in the process of learning JavaScript and React. These are some of the go-to tools for website creation. While generally I don’t think of myself as a creative person – I never found drawing entertaining, for example – I do enjoy creating websites. Of course, I do get angry and frustrated when I cannot for the life of me find some dumb bug, but the feeling of visible progress makes it worth it.
First seeing that English is mandatory in my study plan made me wonder if I can actually benefit from it, and it is still the case. Reading books and watching YouTube in the universal language made sure I have a good passive vocabulary and understanding of both written and spoken English. Speaking is an area I could improve a lot, and I hope this course can help me with that. Although I am in an international program, meaning I am surrounded by people from different countries and cultures, and we speak only English, practicing every day.
I hope writing a blog will help me learn. I definitely will not write about something I don’t fully understand! So picking topics relevant for me might help me get to know more about them. Or maybe it will help me find interesting new topics I wouldn’t otherwise look at.  Also, there is no such thing as perfect language knowledge so I could even end up being a better writer and reader in English.
The name of the blog (Bösenstein) comes from my favourite hobby – hiking! Last summer I went on a hiking trip with my friends and this mountain had one of the most beautiful scenery I had ever seen. It is a memory I won’t forget easily.

  1. It’s nice to hear that I’m not the only one who didn’t choose the right field of study on the first try. I truly believe that studying is never a waste of time—we gain useful knowledge for our careers and lives with every subject we explore.

I hope writing a blog benefits you in some way. It may not feel natural nowadays since blogging has kind of gone out of fashion, but it can still be a great way to reflect and share ideas. Keep up the good work!

By the way, I found the name of your blog very creative and interesting!

  2. Interesting to hear about your path in studies. I think that we have to choose our subjects at really young age and it might be hard choice. Nice to hear that you enjoy creating websites.
Hopefully the English course will help you out with speaking out loud.
